Welcome to Papillon Club of America's Historical Website

The position of Historian was first initiated during the presidency of Dick Richards.

Prior to that time Virginia Newton had been the "unofficial" Historian,

as she had corresponded with the early members of the club.

Much of that early history has been preserved under the "History" link.

It was Dick’s belief that the history of the club should be preserved in a more permanent manner.

So in 1977, Teal Griffin became the Club’s first official Historian. Her duty was to collect photos,

information about members, early club functions etc. before our history might possibly be misplaced

forever in someone’s attic. Throughout the years more information, Handbooks, Specialty Catalogs

and photos have been added to the files.

In the past few years much of that information has been put into binders and displayed at various

National Specialties for members to peruse. Yet, not everyone would have the opportunity to visit the binders,

nor could all the information be made available in that manner. The thought occurred to me that a website

of Historical information, complete with as many photos and articles as we could find,

would be a way of preserving our history and making it available to the membership

and to all who were interested in our wonderful breed.

Little did I realize the monumental and yet truly significant task that lay ahead !

As you progress through the site you will meet our Honorary Life Members,

read about past members whose outstanding contributions to the breed and or Club

have been documented for history, enjoy the photos and Historical firsts of the breed,

( this is limited to American bred Paps or Paps owned by a member of PCA ),

read articles from the fifties and, among other things,

enjoy hundreds of photos of Specialty winners throughout the years.

As with any considerable undertaking it is never the effort of just one individual.

My deepest appreciation, admiration and gratitude go out to Line Leret, our Webmaster.

Line, who is also the Genetics Webmaster, has given generously of her time and talent

to build this wonderful website for PCA. She has put her "heart and soul" into her work and it certainly is evident,

no more so than within the link "Photo Gallery".

Here Line has taken her initiative and creativity to search and locate numerous paintings of the "Old Masters".

The title, "Our Butterflies’ Journey with the Old Masters", says it all.

Due to Line’s efforts, and all who have helped to make this site possible,

the accomplishments of our breed and the achievements of our members will live forever.

Thank you Line, for indeed making our history "come to life".

There are several members, as well, who deserve our thanks and gratitude for their time,

expertise and attention to detail:

Jolene Roudebush for hours spent scanning photographs and her assistance with the Historical Firsts ;

Sandy Schumacher and the Board of Trustees for their continuous support ;

Louann Hansen for providing the pedigrees of our Best in Show dogs ;

Pauline Rousseau for her encouragement and proofreading ;

Jan Berger for her research on the Performance and Obedience Paps ;

Dottie Teeple who spent untold hours proofing, scanning, and being a great sounding board,

Russ Burdick for putting all the History pages together from various Handbooks,

and last but not least, Janis McLaren for both her editorial skills and excellent suggestions ;

for her endless hours of proofreading and research.

And a special thank you to Leona Domino – for putting me in touch with Line.

Without these dedicated members, their hard work and helpful advice,

this website may never have become a reality.

Should you have any photographs or articles that you feel would be of interest,

especially photos pertaining to wins and awards mentioned on this site,

please contact the Historian. Additions, corrections or questions

should be sent to the Historian at :  historian@papillonclub.org

We hope you enjoy your visit. Come back often as more information is added.
