All of these scores and rankings are from the Excellent B (Masters Level) class only.  Congratulations to Jan Berger and “Savoy Chiaroscuro” (Roscoe) and all the top Pap Owner/Handlers. This award was based on “points” accrued in the 2000 calendar year.  Dogs earn points for every FULL second they come in UNDER standard course time (SCT) at an Agility trial, and when a dog places first, those points are doubled.  So for example, if the SCT is 65 seconds for a particular course (based on yardage), and the dog completes the course in 52.05 seconds and wins the class, this is what happens....  The dog was 12.95 seconds under the SCT.  This ROUNDS DOWN to 12 (remember, we said “FULL” seconds under SCT), and because the dog finished first, the 12 is doubled – so the dog earned 24 points.  Second place dogs also get a multiplier of 1.5, so in the exact same circumstance, if the dog finished second, rather than first, the 12 full seconds under course time would have become 18 points.  With all that as a backdrop, let me share with you that Jan Berger’s “Roscoe” earned 1987 points in 2001 to net the AKC recognition as top Papillon for that year.  Congratulations to Jan and the other top Papillons for 2001!

As a point of interest, it should be noted that to earn the MACH title, a dog must earn BOTH 750 points AND 20 Double Q’s (Qualifying in Both Standard Agility and Jumpers with Weaves with a perfect score) on the same day. MACH2 is earned when the dog has achieved an additional 750 points and an additional 20 double Q’s, MACH3 is the same again, etc.
